Scottish Town Crier - John Smith
John Smith is first modern day Scottish crier to be registered with the Loyal Company Of Town Criers.
He is Town Crier of Kilwinning in Ayrshire, and since taking up the role in 2000 he has preceded 8,500 pipers and drummers along Princes Street in Edinburgh, raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. John was privileged to lead two hundred and ninety pipe bands down the Avenue of the Americas in New York City on April 6 (Tartan Day) 2002. John was adopted as town crier by Prestonpans, East Lothian in 2003.
A founder member of the Federation of Professional Toastmasters (established 1986) and, Scottish Toastmasters he has a wealth of experience in helping to ensure events, large or small, run smoothly.
As well as being a Town Crier, John Smith is also a respected trainer. His special topic is effective communication skills, which are on offer under the title "Stand Up, Speak Out, and Win". Apart from being a Scottish karate international and winner of the Pepsi Cola trophy for fighting spirit he is especially proud to be the only Scottish recipient of the award for toastmaster of the year. This honour was bestowed by Toastmasters International UK and Ireland in 1996.
